Structures

Structures module (QSB 2523) is lectured by Dr. Chai Voon Chiet. This module introduces me to services that are commonly provided in a building, such as fire protection system, vertical transportation system, mechanical air-conditioning system and electricity generation and supply system. I'm able to understand the basics requirements, Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL), planning, coordination and installation of these services.

learning outcomes

I'm able to:

  • Explain the action of structural elements and complete systems

  • Recognize the perception of structure as an integral element of architecture

  • Identify the problem encountered through the structure principles

  • Interpret the application of the total integration of structural functions and actions with the overall design objectives

  • Analyse and provide pragmatic solutions to problems of a technological nature

  • Plan all aspects of design, in collaboration with structural engineers of course, in order to realize their design concepts

Through this module, I had learnt a lot of knowledge about civil engineering course. I had learnt the conceptual of live load, imposed load and dead load. I had also learnt the calculation of methods of joints, shear force, vector force, moment and others.

assignment 1

We were requested by Dr. Chai to determine the forces between each truss by using graphical method.

Question given by Dr. Chai

Answer in graph paper

Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC)

The Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC) Portfolio is a document that collates all assessments produced in a module and reflects a student’s acquisition of the Module Learning Outcomes and Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities.

thinking and problem solving skills

I'm able to think critically while doing this assignment. I also define and analyse problems to arrive at effective solutions.

disipline specific knowledge

I'm able to put what i learned during lecture class into this assignment.
