Welcome

estimating
Ms. Azrina Md Yaakob is my estimating module's (QSB 2134) lecturer. This is a 4 credit hours module. This module provides an introduction on the principle of estimating and components prices such as material, plant, wastage, profit and labour. Through this module, I had learnt the calculation of material cost and labour cost (hourly rate). I am able to understand what is profit, bulk factors, overhead, wastage, shrinkage.
learning outcomes
I'm able to:
-
Identify, explain and distinguish the various terminology related to estimating, measurement and unit rates including the objectives and various components of estimating, measurement and unit rates at different stages of construction procurement
-
Adopt a systematic approach to estimate the unit rates by considering and evaluating other factors influencing the cost of the construction components and elements
-
Analyze the factors influencing the cost of the construction components, elements and project including pricing and preparation of tender on a measured work section of Bills of Quantities in a team or independently
-
Analysis and justify the goodness and errors of a tender result for continuous improvement
Seminar 1 & 2

Seminar 2 Question -- FInishes
Seminar 1 Question
Ms. Azrina requested us to form a group with 8 members (Lau Sii, Tan Wen Hao, Cecilia Tie, Khor Seem Leng, Vivian Tan, Stephanie Yeoh, Cassandra Wong & Claire). Project scenario -- We were working as quantity surveyors for a building contractor. We were recently received an invitation to tender a single storey show house project. Our director, Tan Wen Hao had decided to tender the job in order to meet the company profit target. In order to win the job, we were required to obtain as many quotations as possible to estimate for the lowest price and estimate the reasonable allowance for preliminaries, attendance for nominated sub-contractor and profit margin for the project. Our group had proposed all timber materials to steel.
We were requested by Ms. Azrina to form a group with 5 members (Cecilia Tie, Lau Sii, Khor Seem Leng, Claire & Cassandra Wong). We were required to finish two seminars. First seminar is answer the Theory Question 6 by presenting our answers through powerpoint slides. Another seminar is answer the calculation of finishes and teach the peers during tutorial class. we had learnt a lot through these two seminars.
assignment

We had submitted our tender document on 18th November 2015 on time. Ms. Azrina announced that our group is the tenderer who has the lowest price.

thinking and problem solving skills
I'm able to think critically while doing this assignment. I also define and analyse problems to arrive at effective solutions.

disipline specific knowledge
I'm able to put what i learned during lecture class into this assignment.
