MEASUREMENT IV
Sr. Loo Seong King is my measurement IV module's (QSB 60404) lecturer. This is a 5 credit hours module. This module will cover the measurement of bored piles, timber piles, steel piles, renovation and demolition works and various element of external works. I had learnt the introduction on the principles of specification writing, form of specification writing and their uses for the various trades.
learning outcomes
Through this module, I had learnt to evaluate the relationship between Specifications, Drawings and Bill of Quantities in Tender Documents for work below lowest floor finish, frame, upper floor, roof, various external works and etc. I also understood the concept and ability to compentently carry out the preparation of the Bills of Quantities for bored piles, timber piles, steel piles, renovation and demolition works, and various external works.
Assignment 1 - eca workshop
ECA, which is Elemental Cost Analysis can be defined as "a systematic breakdown of the cost of a building to a client into the various building/construction elements in terms which are meaningful to both the Client ans the members of the Design Team."
The aims of the ECA:-

To enable the Design Team to determine how much had been spent on each building element

To assess whether a balanced distribution of costs have been achieved amongst the various elements of the building

To provide comparison of costs of the same element that may be used in different buildings

To obtain cost data for use in thecost planning for other projects

For measurement assignment 2, our group with 7 members (Khor Seem Leng, Lau Sii, Cecilia Tie, Lai Ken Min, Bernard Ting, Zane Chew & Kellyann Hiew) are requested to form a team in a Consultant Quantity Surveyor Firm that has just won a new project appointment to prepare the tender documents(with quantities) for the calling of tender. This assignment aims to demosndtrate our familiarity with a typical tender documentation process, our skill in management and co-ordination as a team within the context of a consultant Quantity Surveyor's office in the production of the BQ and demonstrate our skill and knowledge in accurate description and measurement of all elements of works in a typical building project.
Our company, MK Quantity Surveyor SDN BHD is appointed by SP Setia to prepare the tender documents of a double storey terrace house in Setia EcoGardens, Johor Bahru. Cecilia is the one who got the drawings details from the architecture firm. Our drawings were approved by Sr. Loo. We were required to prepare the compulsory documents such as Project Correspondences, Measurement Details (Taking-off), Tender Documents (including Bills of Quantities) and Tender Drawings.
