professional practice iI

Sr. Eddie Lim Sek Cheon is my professional practice II module's (QSB 60904) lecturer. This is a 4 credit hours module. The module provides an overview of professional and contractual responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor in the consultancy setup from the inception stage to the final account stage. It focuses on the importance of a clear understanding of the organization and contract administration of quantity surveying practices and the legal and contractual procedures in relation to built environment.

 

Through this module, I had learnt more knowledge and understanding of the administration of construction contracts and the application and limitations of particular contract clauses. I had the awareness of the provisions of the Standard Contract forms related to valuation and certificates, instructions and variations, day works and final accounts, extension of time and loss and expense through this module.

The first assignment for Professional Practice II module is seminar presentation. I had been presented the lecture P4 [Rights of Setting-off by Employer] which was requested by Sr. Eddie. Through this seminar, I had understand the comments on the set-off condition, recovery of set-off, rights of contractor and rights of employer.

assignment 2 

The second assignment for Professional Practice II module is a group coursework. We were requested to attend a FIDIC Workshop. The speaker of FIDIC Workshop is Eugenie Lip from Davis Langdon KPK Singapore. Ms. Eugenie had teach us about the Fidic Conditions of Contract. I had found out the differences between FIDIC form and PAM form. Through FIDIC Workshop, I had learnt more about FIDIC form. After the workshop, a case study assignment had been assigned for us to complete and we had to present on the next day.

Our group was combined with senior's group (Semester 6) with total 14 members. Through this case study assignment, I am able to learn how to apply the clauses of FIDIC form into the cases and what the advice that I can give to the client. On the next day, our group presented on the question 5, 11 & 14.
